Beginning a Walk
Beginning A Walk
It almost feels like an ending
To leave behind
Rest and relaxation
The time for that has passed
It’s a cup that is full
And now overflows
Overflowing out into
The path or the lane
Or the street busy with traffic
Water flowing seems to know
The path that it flows
But it seems so unpredictable
Full of surprising turns
Sudden stops
While the newly made pool fills
This minor ocean swells its banks
Its tide is high
But then it drains
Sudden stop is answered with sudden start
And the walk is on again
Meandering back and forth
Across the path, across the lane
Across the street busy with traffic
Leaving behind itself
As it flows it slows and shrinks
Until the end
When the flow has stopped
But then its over
A wet pile of sticks and debris
The end of the river, the end of the walk
